KIJHL OFF-SEASON ROUNDUP

The 2013-2014 Canadian Junior Hockey season finished up with the National Junior A Championship (RBC Cup) in Vernon last weekend. The Yorkton Terriers scored 2 goals in 8 seconds late in the 3rd to erase a 3-1 deficit, before winning in OT on a goal by Derek Falloon to knock out the Carleton Place Canadians and take the title of National Champion.

The Summerland Steam are pleased to send Congratulations the way of former Steam Forward Riley Hunt, who signed with the Terriers at the roster deadline on January 10, and played an integral part in their 'cardiac kid' type run to the RBC Cup National Championship.

STEAM'S LEADING SCORER COMMITS TO BCHL

The Summerland Steam Junior B Hockey Club are pleased to announce today that the Steam's leading scorer from last season and KIJHL Rookie of the Year, Kienan Scott, has committed to the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL for the 2014-2015 season.

After getting a shot with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs to begin last season, Kienan arrived to the Steam's lineup in early October and made an immediate impact. In his first game with the Steam Kienan recorded 2 assists against the Grand Forks Border Bruins on October 4th.

In just 39 regular season games for the Summerland Steam, Scott recorded 32 Goals and 56 Points. Scott became known around the Summerland Arena for scoring a big goal when his team needed him most, and has the ability to control a hockey game with his speed and skill on any given night.

In the first round playoff series with the North Okanagan Knights, Kienan added to those totals, tallying a goal and 2 assists in the 7 game series which saw the Steam eliminated from the KIJHL Playoffs.

Scott joins a Trail Smoke Eaters club that is looking to improve on a 6th place finish in the BCHL's perennial powerhouse Interior Division last season, finishing with a 10-42-2-4 record. He will look to provide some offensive firepower for a team who finished last in Goals For this past season with just 151 and last in goal differential at -123. Kienan joins a team that is trying to be competitive in quite arguably the toughest division in the toughest league in Junior Hockey in Canada with 4 teams who have been ranked in the CJHL Top 10 National Rankings at some point in the past calendar year.

Kienan got a taste of the BCHL last season first with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs before being an AP with the Penticton Vees while playing with the Steam. In talking to the Voice of the Vees, Fraser Rodgers, during the first game of the KIJHL playoffs this past season, Rodgers mentioned on our broadcast that Scott "looked very good" during his 2 games with the Vees and  "has got Junior A credentials written all over him with the way he skates and sees the game and obviously the poise he shows."

Hopefully Kienan will prove those words correct with the Trail Smoke Eaters this season, and the Summerland Steam Organization wishes Kienan Scott the best of luck in the BCHL!
